Our Mills
The Chaff Mill
The Sprenger family first began cutting chaff in the early 1900’s with a small 3 blade cutter, driven by an old single cylinder Lister engine. The chaff was produced to feed our own beef and dairy cattle of that time.
In the early 1970’s, we began producing our own chaff for retail and wholesale customers through a small 4 blade Jas Smith chaff cutter. Which operated for many years.
In January of 2011, a much larger commercial chaffing machine was purchased. This is the current chaff cutter in use at Sprenger’s Rural Traders. It produces a variety of different lines of chaff, supplying customers from northern New South Wales up to far North Queensland.
